Pilonidal Sinus

Pilonidal Sinus

A pilonidal sinus occurs when hair follicles grow inward and fragment into the skin around the coccyx, causing an infection that forms a chronic abscess. Over time, this can turn into an acute and severe infection, leading to discomfort and pain.

Symptoms:
Painful swelling at the base of the spine, discharge of pus with a foul odor, fever, and drainage of pus or blood from the swollen area.

Treatment Method:
A simple incision is made to drain the abscess and remove pus. This method is used for treating acute abscesses, but it may not fully resolve the issue if infected tissue remains. Complete treatment is done later, depending on the severity of the condition.
