Seroma Aspiration and Drainage

Seroma Aspiration and Drainage

Breast cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women, leading to many deaths worldwide. Part of breast cancer management involves surgery to remove axillary lymph nodes, called axillary dissection (also referred to as axillary lymphadenectomy). If cancer has spread to the underarm (metastasis), this surgery may be required. One potential consequence of removing some or all of these lymph nodes is the formation of a fluid collection called a seroma under the arm, which can be uncomfortable and may require drainage (also called aspiration).
