Pacemaker Implantation

Pacemaker Implantation

Pacemakers are small electronic devices designed to help regulate heart function, particularly in cases of heart arrhythmias or slow heartbeats (bradycardia). They work by mimicking the natural electrical signals of the heart to maintain a steady rhythm. When the heart fails to maintain a proper rhythm, the pacemaker delivers electrical impulses to the heart muscle via leads (wires) placed within the heart. These leads also help monitor the heart's rhythm and ensure that the pacemaker provides the necessary electrical stimulation when needed.

Indications: Slow heart rate causing dizziness, fatigue, fainting, or shortness of breath.

Procedure: The pacemaker is implanted under the skin, usually in the upper chest or abdomen, with leads placed in the heart. These leads send electrical impulses to regulate the heartbeat.
