Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) of the Brain

Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) of the Brain

AVM is a vascular disorder of the brain, typically identified after a brain hemorrhage. Genetic factors play a role in its development. Treatment can be either through open surgery or radiosurgery, depending on the specifics of the malformation.

Symptoms:

  • Brain hemorrhage
  • Seizures
  • Headaches

Treatment: Under general anesthesia, a craniotomy is performed based on cerebral angiography findings. The feeding vessels of the AVM are carefully closed under a microscope, and the malformation is completely removed.
