Spondylosis

Spondylosis

Spondylosis is a spinal condition where a crack or fissure forms in the vertebral arch, which can destabilize the vertebrae of the spine. On the other hand, degenerative spondylosis is one of the signs of aging caused by the wear and tear of the vertebrae. In spondylosis, the upper part of the spine slides forward (ventrally) over the vertebral body below. While degenerative spondylosis primarily affects older adults, true spondylosis occurs in children and adolescents during their growth stage. In many cases, there is a hereditary predisposition to true spondylosis (dysplasia, spina bifida).

Symptoms:

  • Pain in the hip and thigh regions.
  • The pain increases when the patient bends backward, while bending forward has a relieving effect, reducing the pain.
  • Changes in body posture can also manifest in pelvic and knee misalignments.
  • However, in a large number of cases, spondylosis is asymptomatic and may be discovered accidentally, especially when muscles and ligaments are strong enough to provide sufficient stability for the spine.
  • The symptoms of spondylosis of the spine and disc herniation or protrusion may be similar.

Treatment: Generally, the available treatments are divided into two categories: conservative (non-surgical) and surgical treatments, depending on the patient’s condition.
