Dacryoscintigraphy Scan
Tear duct scan is one of the diagnostic methods to ensure the openness of the tear ducts and the absence of obstruction. This scan is performed with the help of radioactive materials. This is performed specifically with radiopharmaceutic technium (Tc-99m) and by SPECT device (gamma-camera).
Necessary care after the scan:
Patients should avoid approaching children under 12 years of age, pregnant women and medical staff for 8 hours after this scan and observe at least 2 meters of social distance to others.
After a scan of the tear ducts, patients should wash their eyes with plenty of running water.
Due to the low dose of radiopharmaceuticals used for scanning the tear ducts, there is no need to stop breastfeeding after the scan.
After the surgery of the tear ducts, there are no food and drug restrictions.
Approximate time to do scanning: 1 hour
