Octreotide Scan with SPECT

Octreotide scan is used in the diagnosis of some neuroendocrine diseases and is a very suitable method for examining primary and metastatic tumors of neuroendocrine origin such as adrenal gland tumors (neuroblastoma, pheochromocytoma, etc.). The radiopharmaceutical as octrotaide derivatives marked with technetium (Tc-99m-Octreotide).

Scanning procedure:

First, the radiopharmaceutical (Tc-99m-Octreotide) is injected into the patient through a peripheral vein, and based on the needs of the images, after 4 hours’ interval, the full body and additional views will be taken. In some cases, SPECT imaging can be helpful in interpreting the results.

Preparation for octreotide scan:

-Having previous medical records (testing, MRI, CT scan, etc.) is mandatory.

-Patients should not have received long-acting octreotide (sandostatin) in the last month.

-The patient is advised to drink plenty of fluids before the scan.

-The patient does not need fasting to the octreotide scan.

-The presence of a companion alongside the patient will be helpful.

Approximate duration of Oterotaide scan: 3 to 5 hours
