TRODAT Scan
The TRODAT brain scan is a nuclear medicine scan that examines the function of dopamine transporters in the patient's brain. This medication is often used to help distinguish Parkinson's disease from other causes of tremors or movement problems.
Scanning procedures:
- At first, a small amount of radiopharmaceutical substance will be injected into the patient's vein.
- The waiting time after the injection until the time of the scan is approximately 4 hours.
- The scan usually lasts between 20 and 30 minutes, and it is necessary for the patient to be calm on the bed during the scan.
- The amount of radiopharmaceutical substance that remains in the body is very small and does not pose a danger to the surrounding people and the patient.
- It is safe for the patient to travel after the scan, but for air travel, the patient is allowed after 3 days.
The presence of a companion alongside the patient is required.
Hospital length of stay: 6 hours
Approximate time for result report: 1 to 3 working days
