Thyroid Scan
Thyroid scans are performed to investigate thyroid diseases using technium (Tc99m) intravenously or iodine (I-131) orally. In addition, using thyroid scans can be used to investigate the origin of cervical masses by extending to the chest area.
Thyroid scan procedures:
In the thyroid scan, at first, 5 mV of sodium pertecentate is injected into the patient's vein and after 20 to 30 minutes, neck imaging is performed.
Preparations and tips before thyroid scans:
Pregnant women should inform the receptionist about their pregnancy before thyroid scan.
All relevant medical records are mandatory (previous scans, thyroid ultrasound, tests, self-examination reports and case summary in case of previous hospitalization).
The presence of a companion alongside the elderly person, children, disabled and mentally retarded patients and critically ill patients is mandatory.
Length of hospitalization: one working day
