 nasolacrimal duct

nasolacrimal duct

In adults, obstruction of the tear duct causes individuals to experience continuous tearing and discharge from the eye. The exact cause of this condition is not precisely known, and various reasons have been suggested. However, it is important to note that in most of these individuals (more than 60 cases), other anatomical and inflammatory problems in the nose, such as nasal septum deviation, nasal mucosal polyps, sinusitis, or the proximity of the most anterior ethmoid sinus air cell to the tear duct, or other issues exist.

Treatment Method: In this surgical procedure, a path for direct drainage of tears is created from the tear sac into the nasal cavity, and during the surgery, the blocked portion of the tear duct is altered to connect it to the nose. It should be noted that acquired obstruction of the tear duct to the nose is a relatively common disorder.

Symptoms of the Disease: Tearing, eyelid swelling, tear sac swelling, mucopurulent discharge, blurred vision, sensation of pain in the face, inflammation of the tear sac, secondary conjunctival infection

Success of Tear Duct Obstruction Surgery in Adults by Endoscopic Method:

The success rate of endoscopic tear duct surgery is between 70 to 95 percent, which is comparable to the classic DCR method.
