Aortic Pulmonary Window (A.P. Window) in Children

A congenital anomaly where two large arteries emerge from the base of the heart and then give rise to multiple branches for the lungs and aorta. There is a communication between these two major arteries, the pulmonary artery, and the aorta, leading to mixed oxygenated and deoxygenated blood and causing extra heart sounds.
Symptoms: Increased heart rate, increased respiratory rate, shortness of breath, cyanosis, and poor growth.
Treatment Method: Surgical correction to completely separate the paths of the two arteries.
Medical Treatment: There is no medical treatment; heart surgery is the primary treatment.
