Transposition of the Great Arteries (DTGA) in Children

Transposition of the Great Arteries (DTGA) in Children

This is a heart condition involving the transposition of the major arteries (including the aorta and pulmonary artery), leading to oxygen delivery issues to the organs and causing cyanosis and blueness from birth. This condition requires a hole between the atria or ventricles for the newborn to survive.
Symptoms: Cyanosis and blueness from birth.
Treatment Method: Initially, treatment with prostaglandin in the hospital is required, followed by opening a hole between the atria. If surgery is not performed immediately, a balloon may be inserted to increase oxygen supply to the patient. However, the main treatment is heart surgery, specifically the arterial switch procedure.
Medical Treatment: Medical treatments are temporary; surgery is the main treatment.
Length of Stay in Iran: 15-30 days
Hospital Stay: 10-20 days
