Fat Injection (Lipotransfer)

Fat injection is used to enhance the lips, fill out areas of the face that are thin or sunken, such as the cheeks and under-eye area, fill smile lines and lines around the mouth, and correct scars caused by acne or old cuts. It is also used for facial rejuvenation due to the stem cells present in the fat tissue and rejuvenation of the back of the hands.

Method: For fat injection, dense and firm fat is harvested from areas like the abdomen or buttocks, processed to remove excess fluids, and then injected into the desired area using a syringe and needle. The injected fat acts as a cell transplant, transferring cells from one part of the body to another. On average, 30% to 50% of the transplanted cells successfully survive and integrate into the tissue of the injection site. Since about 50% of the transplanted cells may not survive (which happens within 6 weeks), a second fat injection after 6 months to a year may be needed to achieve the desired volume and fullness.
