Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

Over time, a woman's breasts often change, losing their appearance and firmness. Surgery to lift the breasts is known by various names such as breast lifting or mastopexy.

Method: The surgery generally involves the following steps:

• The surgeon marks your body in a standing position to determine the new nipple location on your breast. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
• The surgeon makes an incision around the areola. The incision usually extends from the front of the breast, from the bottom of the areola to the crease area, and may extend along the edges of the areola.
• The surgeon lifts and reshapes your breasts. Then, the surgeon moves the areolas to the correct position in the new breast shape and may also reduce their size.
• The surgeon removes excess skin to give the breasts a firmer appearance.
• Finally, the surgeon closes the incisions with sutures, skin adhesives, or surgical tape. Surgeons generally try to place the incisions in less visible areas.
