Nipple Areola Reconstruction

This procedure is done to correct the appearance of the nipple and areola that may have been altered due to previous surgeries.

Method: The goal of nipple and areola reconstruction is to match the new nipple's position, size, shape, texture, color, and projection to the natural nipple or to each other if both are being reconstructed. The tissue used for the reconstruction of the nipple and areola can come from the newly formed breast or, in some cases, from another part of your body (such as the inner thigh). If a woman wants the color of the nipple and areola to match the other breast, a tattoo can be done several months after the surgery. Some women prefer to only undergo tattooing without tissue reconstruction of the nipple and areola. A skilled plastic surgeon or another professional may use pigments in shades that create a three-dimensional effect in the tattoo.
