lip lift

A lip lift is typically performed to address excessive distance between the nose and the upper lip, which can occur naturally or as a result of rhinoplasty.

Method: The procedure is done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia as the pain is usually not intense. A small section of skin is removed from the area between the nose and mouth. Stitches are usually removed one week after the procedure. There are different types of lip lifts, and it is important to understand the options and techniques to discuss with your surgeon about which one is most suitable for you.

  • Direct Lip Lift: Also called a "gullwing" lip lift, it creates a more defined lip edge. A thin strip of skin is removed from just above the upper lip, and the skin is pulled upwards to create the illusion of a more prominent pink part of the lips. This method usually leaves a scar above the upper lip.
  • Bullhorn Lift (Under the Nose): One of the most common lip lift methods. The surgeon makes an incision that is typically hidden along the base of the nose, where it is less visible. This incision is often shaped like a bullhorn, pulling the center, right, and left parts of the lip upward toward the nose.
  • Central Lip Lift: Similar to the bullhorn lip lift, this procedure shortens the space between the nose and lips with an incision at the base of the nose.
  • Corner Lip Lift: Sometimes called a "smile lift," this gives the appearance of a smiling face. It involves making small incisions at each corner of the mouth and removing a small amount of skin. Some individuals combine this procedure with other lip lifts to achieve fuller lips. This is ideal for those who feel their lips are drooping.
  • Italian Lip Lift: This lift requires two incisions beneath each nostril and is very similar to the bullhorn lift except for the small details. It typically does not leave a noticeable scar.
