Double-J Stent Placement

Double-J stent placement is performed under various conditions, including:

• Patients with upper, middle, or lower ureteral stones undergoing TUL (transurethral lithotripsy).
• Patients with ureteral strictures.
• Occasionally, after PCNL (percutaneous nephrolithotomy) surgery.

Symptoms:
Hydronephrosis (kidney swelling) or urine accumulation in the urinary collecting system.

Treatment Method in the Hospital:

The physician inserts a ureteroscope through the urethra and navigates to the affected ureteral opening. Using specialized techniques, the ureter is accessed. If stones are present, they are fragmented, and a double-J stent is placed. For ureteral strictures, the ureter is dilated with special balloons, and a double-J stent is inserted for 4–6 weeks.

Full Recovery Time: 2–6 weeks after complete removal of the double-J stent

Return to Work: After surgery, but strenuous activities should be avoided
