Lithotripsy (TUL)

Lithotripsy (TUL)

Lithotripsy is performed for the presence of stones in the upper, middle, or lower ureter, which cause severe pain, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.

Symptoms:
Severe pain in the flank, intense pain in the groin area, and if the stone is in the lower ureter, symptoms such as burning, frequent urination, or sharp pain in the testicles and groin.

Treatment Method in the Hospital:

For stones in the upper ureter, if not large, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) can be performed on an outpatient basis without anesthesia. However, for stones in the middle or lower ureter, a TUL (transurethral lithotripsy) procedure is required. A fine ureteroscope is inserted through the urinary tract into the bladder, then advanced into the ureter under full visualization. Specialized methods are used to locate the stone. Once the stone is reached, a lithotripter is passed through the ureteroscope, and the stone is shattered using a pedal device.
