Nephrostomy

Nephrostomy

Nephrostomy is a temporary procedure performed for patients with urinary obstruction, where they cannot excrete urine through the bladder and urethra.

Symptoms: Inability to urinate via the bladder and urethra.

Treatment Method in the Hospital: A small artificial incision is made on the patient's side, and a flexible plastic tube (nephrostomy tube) is inserted to drain urine directly. One end of the tube remains inside the kidney, while the other is connected to a bag outside the body. The urine is collected in the bag, which needs to be emptied regularly to prevent the tube from dislodging. The nephrostomy placement is guided by radiological imaging to ensure precision. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation.
