Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND)

Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND)

This procedure is often performed in patients with testicular cancer who present late, as the lymph nodes of the testicle may spread to the retroperitoneal area, leading to large masses in this region. These patients should undergo a complete examination and nuclear scanning, and based on the clinical condition, size of the mass, and whether it is active or not, the patient will undergo surgery or chemotherapy.

Symptoms: In follow-up of patients with testicular cancer after the affected testicle has been removed, the patient may notice an enlargement of the retroperitoneal lymph nodes.

Treatment Method in the Hospital: The abdomen is opened completely, and efforts are made to free and remove all lymph nodes adhered to the retroperitoneum, often attached to major blood vessels. This surgery carries significant risks, including potential damage to major blood vessels.
