Sling Surgery for Urinary Incontinence Correction in Women (e.g., using fascia or synthetic materials)
Sling surgery is often performed in women over 45 years of age, particularly those who have had more than 2–3 vaginal deliveries, due to pelvic floor muscle relaxation, which leads to stress urinary incontinence. In this condition, urine leaks when the patient coughs, sneezes, or bends. This condition may also be accompanied by urge incontinence (urine leakage before reaching the restroom).
Symptoms:
Urinary incontinence
Treatment Method in the Hospital:
Prior to the surgery, bladder function testing and evaluation for bladder and uterine prolapse are mandatory. During this surgical procedure, a small incision is made below the vagina at the site of the urethra (which has become weakened). The urethra is then freed, and either the TOT (transobturator tape) or TVT (tension-free vaginal tape) technique is used to place a synthetic sling under the weakened urethra. The sling lifts the urethra and is sutured in place at a specific location in the lower abdomen, which results in the cessation of urinary incontinence.
