TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)
TESE is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure performed on patients with the following conditions:
Azoospermia: No healthy sperm is found in the semen analysis.
Testicular Cancer: When there is a risk of testicular involvement during radical orchiectomy surgery, sperm is extracted from the healthy testicle and frozen.
Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy: Patients scheduled for these treatments are recommended to freeze sperm, either through natural collection or TESE, as a precautionary measure.
Male Infertility: In cases of male infertility, especially those with azoospermia in spermogram and no identifiable cause despite surgery for varicocele or genetic investigations, TESE is performed in conjunction with IVF treatment. The extracted sperm is provided to a fertility specialist for embryo creation.
Symptoms: Infertility resistant to surgical and medical treatments.
Treatment Method in the Hospital: The specialist first reviews the patient's medical history and status to determine if TESE is appropriate. If suitable, a small incision is made on the scrotum, and using a fine needle, small tissue samples are extracted from the testicle. These tissue samples are then processed in the laboratory. The incision on the testicle capsule and scrotal layers is closed with sutures. If no sperm is found in the initial sampling, a larger incision is made, and with the help of a microscope, more precise tissue extraction is performed from areas where sperm is likely to be present. The incision is then sutured.
