Cerebral Angiography

Cerebral Angiography

Cerebral angiography is a minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedure that uses X-rays, iodine-based contrast dye, and a thin plastic tube called a catheter to obtain detailed images of blood vessels in the head and neck. In cerebral angiography, a thin catheter is inserted through a small incision in the groin into a leg artery. In some cases, the catheter may be inserted through an arm artery. Using X-ray guidance, the catheter is navigated to the targeted area, where contrast dye is injected, and images are captured. The movement of the contrast dye within the vessels assists physicians in examining, diagnosing, and treating cerebral vascular conditions.
