Excimer Laser

Excimer Laser

Excimer laser is a relatively new treatment method that can be used to correct refractive eye errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Excimer lasers change the refractive state of the eye by removing tissue from the anterior cornea through a process known as photoablation. The use of excimer lasers in corneal surgery has significantly increased the safety of this type of surgery. The excimer laser is a "cool" laser and does not generate heat in the cornea. The precision and delicacy with which tissue can be removed, along with the absence of thermal damage, make this laser suitable for surgery on the delicate cornea.
